Fallout 3: A post nuclear “Action RPG”?

Wow, just wow. I always hoped the reverse, but Bethesda seems to have got it all wrong. According to Game Informer scans at NMA, these are the worst combinations of elements which have been selected to represent Fallout series.

– Isometric view has gone.
– Oblivion style dialog system.
– For console boxes, the gameplay has been sacrificed.

For console boxes and for a more general audience, they turned Fallout into a money maker. As a money maker, Oblivion and Morrowind may be successful, but as RPG’s, they totally suck.

I remember Pete Hines saying:

“We’re not going to go away from what it is that we do best.”

You’re not going to go away from what it is you do best? Your “bests” even don’t count as role playing games.

Continuing from Pete Hines:

“We’re not going to suddenly do a top-down isometric Baldur’s Gate-style game, because that’s not what we do well.”

Tell me, dear Bethesda, what are you doing well?

I have a Fallout 3 was being developed and was interested but skeptical. I mean, I’ve seen what they dig to Baldur’s Gate on the Consoles. Although, BG – Dark Alliance wasn’t half-bad. The other two console games were simply first-person shooters. But you say it seems they’re doing the same with Fallout 3, I’d agree that does blow.
Do you remember they were working on a real 3-D Fallout, right after Fallout Tactics and closed down the project? I wonder if this is related to it or from scatch. I’m inclined to think the latter.
While I don’t think a Fallout sequel needs to be isometric, I think it was the atmosphere and role-playing that made it so memorable.
